Clovelly in North Devons Cobbled Streets and Fishing Qauy

Clovelly in North Devon is a beautiful 14th century quay and cobbled village cut into the steep wooded hillside. With is steep cobbled streets made from rocks hauled from the beach and amazing views over the deep blue sea Clovelly is a popular Devon attraction with visitors to the area. The main street through Clovelly known as up-along street is literally too steep for motor vehicle traffic, so the village uses donkeys as the main source of transporting goods through up-along street on sledges. Although there is a land rover transport that can take passengers and goods the long way round from the top of the village to the very bottom by Clovelly harbour via a back road. The village is owned privately in its entirety by one family, this insures that the traditional look and feel of the village is protected.
